Week 3

Today I attended a lecture on MA’s on how these can be undertaken after my current course. Within the class we completed an activity that involved looking at various institutions that offer Masters in Art and comparing these courses. 

This was very helpful to me as I am looking into options for when I complete the course this year. I learnt that an MA would be beneficial to me if I wanted to go into teaching at degree level and that in fine art they are offered at Uclan, Liverpool and Manchester. I also learnt that there is funding available and the opportunity to apply for bursaries, which I didn’t know before!

However, I need to decide what I want to do with my degree and if doing an MA would be beneficial to my career. It would give me the opportunity to further research into my practice (floral art). However, it would also prevent me from working full time and add another year of funding to my student loan. I have signed up for the open day at Uclan and have been looking into options to study online. I also thought about booking an appointment with careers at uni to ask them about it.

So I have definitely got more research to do before I make any decisions!

Grundy Open 2026

Wednesday 28th Jan Today I visited the Grundy Art Gallery in Blackpool where there event the Grundy Open is taking place until the 7th March this year. This event is a collection of works from local artists in the Blackpool area and anyone can display their work. I entered one of my artworks into the exhibition and went along today to the gallery to view it alongside other artists. When you walk into the room, there is a sense of community with all the pieces working together despite the mediums and concepts being very different for each. I was initially unhappy with the placement of my work as I felt it was restricting the view. However, the coffee grounds used on my piece may fall off when being displayed so it makes sense to put it below so it does not affect other works. I was pleased to be incorporated within the exhibition and do feel proud that my work is being displayed alongside other artist's. Hello, welcome to my blog! I am Macy, a student who practices in floral art and owner of Bloom Box Florals. @bloombox.florals On this blog I will be updating my research and thought processes for my university projects and running of my business.  This is my first blog, so may take me a while to get used to it. Bloom Box Showcase - Week 2

Week two of planning for the Bloom Box Showcase involved benchmarking other professional showcases and taking inspiration from these. It also involved collecting relevant research sources to reference throughout the project. One of the showcases I looked at was the Floral Era's Exhibition. This showcase involves 15 floral artists each having a space to exhibit within a town house in Brighton. This source is possibly the most relevant to the project as it is similar to what I am hoping to create which is a showcase of purely floral art made with plant materials. If I attending this showcase it could also offer opportunities to showcase there and network with other artists. The location of the exhibition is interesting as works are displayed from the ceilings, walls and mantlepieces which puts the works into familiar settings which can showcase to clients how the installations may work for them.
